Terms of service

Last updated: 17 July 2026

This is an English convenience translation. The German version (terms.de.md) is the legally authoritative one.

1. Provider and scope

These terms govern the use of the ShowUp platform (showup.piratex.com), operated by PIRATEx GmbH, Brabanter Str. 53, 50672 Cologne, Germany, registered with the Local Court of Cologne under HRB 91279 ("we").

They apply to organizers who create an account and build event pages. Visitors of event pages need no account and enter into no contract with us; for them, only the notices on the respective page and our privacy policy apply.

2. What ShowUp is

ShowUp is a free service. Organizers use it to create event pages on which attendees turn their own photo into a branded social media graphic. The graphic is composed entirely in the attendee's browser; photos never reach our servers at any point.

ShowUp is a side project, not a commercial product with a support organization. There are no fees, no tiers and no paid add-ons.

3. Account and sign-in

Sign-in works through a single-use link sent by email. You must provide an email address you control and keep your details current. An account may only be used for your own purposes; passing sign-in links to third parties is not permitted.

4. Your content, your responsibility

The content of your event pages (texts, logos, frame designs, sticker texts, captions, linked destinations) comes from you. You are responsible for its legality and for holding all necessary rights to it. This applies in particular to trademarks, logos and designs: only upload what you are allowed to use.

Not permitted, in particular: pages for events that do not exist; acting in the name of people or organizations you do not represent; offensive, discriminatory or illegal content; spam and misleading links.

Every event page must link your own imprint and your own privacy policy before it can be published. The platform enforces this technically; the accuracy of those documents is on you. The footer of every published page names you as the party responsible for its content. We are the technical host of your page, not its owner.

5. The deal: free in exchange for visibility

ShowUp costs nothing. In return, every downloaded graphic carries a small "made with" mark and every event page carries the ShowUp badge in its footer, linking to our home page. Neither is removable while the service is free. That is the entire price, and it is stated here so nobody has to hunt for it in fine print.

6. Rights of use

You grant us the non-exclusive right to store your uploaded content (logos, frames, texts), process it technically and make it publicly available as part of your event pages. This right ends when the content or your account is deleted.

We grant you the non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the template designs we provide for your event pages. Use outside the platform is not permitted.

7. Reports, blocking and termination by us

Every published page carries a report link. When we receive reports of content that is illegal or violates these terms, we review them; our target is 48 hours. The details are set out in "Notice and takedown" (notice-and-takedown.en.md).

We may block or unpublish a page that violates these terms or applicable law. With every block you receive a statement of reasons: what was blocked, why, and how to object. In cases of repeated or serious violations we may suspend your account or terminate the contract for cause. We may block manifestly illegal content immediately.

8. Availability

We operate the service with reasonable care but make no availability commitment. Published event pages are built as static files so they stay reachable even when the platform application is down; that is not a guarantee either. Maintenance, outages and changes to the feature set are possible. If we shut the service down entirely, we will announce this to organizers with an account at least four weeks in advance by email.

9. Liability

For a free service, we are liable only for intent and gross negligence. This does not affect liability for damage from injury to life, body or health, or liability under the German Product Liability Act.

We are not liable for organizer content; the statutory rules for hosting services apply. We accept no liability for lost revenue, lost reach, or the loss of data you did not store with us.

You indemnify us against third-party claims based on illegal content on your event pages, including the reasonable costs of legal defense, to the extent you are responsible for the violation.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms when there is a valid reason, such as new features, changes in the law or security requirements. We announce changes to organizers with an account at least four weeks in advance by email. If you do not object before the changes take effect, the new terms apply; the announcement will point this consequence out. If you object, the contract ends when the change takes effect.

11. Term and termination

The contract runs for an indefinite period. You can end it at any time by deleting your account in the settings. Deletion takes effect immediately and irreversibly removes your account, events and published pages.

12. Final provisions

German law applies, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. If you are a merchant, a legal entity under public law or a special fund under public law, the place of jurisdiction is Cologne. Should any provision of these terms be invalid, the remainder stays in effect; the statutory rule replaces the invalid provision.

The German version of these terms is authoritative. This English version exists for readability.
