How we handle reports about content on event pages. This process implements the requirements of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act) for hosting services.

Who is responsible for what

Event pages on ShowUp are created by organizers. The organizer is responsible for the content of their page; their imprint and privacy policy are linked in the footer of every page. PIRATEx GmbH operates the technology and reviews reports of illegal content.

Reporting a page

The footer of every published event page carries the link "Report this page". The form asks:

What is wrong with this page? Options: impersonation or fake event, offensive or illegal content, spam, other.
A short explanation: what exactly is the problem, and where on the page is it?
Optionally your email address, if you want to hear about the outcome.

You can also reach us directly at manuel@piratex.com. So we can review a report, please include the address of the page (URL), describe the violation as concretely as possible, and confirm that you are reporting in good faith. For violations of your own rights (such as trademarks or copyright), evidence of your entitlement helps.

What happens after a report

Every report is reviewed by a human, not by an automated system. Our target: a decision within 48 hours of receipt.

Possible outcomes:

No action: the report is unfounded. If you provided an email address, we let you know with a short explanation.
Blocking or unpublishing: the page violates our terms or applicable law. Visitors then see only the notice "This page is unavailable."
Manifestly illegal content is blocked immediately, before the 48 hours are up.

Statement of reasons on blocking

When we block a page or an account, the affected organizer receives a statement of reasons by email: which content is affected, which rule or legal provision it violates, which facts the decision is based on, and how to object. No block happens without a statement of reasons.

Objection (counter-notice)

The organizer can object to any blocking decision within 14 days: replying to the statement-of-reasons email is enough, with an explanation of why the decision is wrong from their point of view. We review the objection again, by a human, and reply with the result. If the block was unjustified, we restore the page.

Reporters can also contest a decision when their report was rejected: same deadline, same path, reply to our message.

The objection path does not replace legal recourse. Both sides can turn to the competent courts at any time.

Repeat violations

Whoever repeatedly publishes illegal content or repeatedly violates the terms loses access: after one warning, the next violation gets the account suspended. Serious violations (such as impersonation or criminal content) get the account suspended without warning.

Likewise: whoever repeatedly and manifestly abuses the reporting process may, after a prior warning, have their reports left unprocessed for a reasonable period.

Internal process

For transparency towards organizers and authorities, we document internally:

Intake: every report lands in the admin area with timestamp, URL, reason and optional contact address, and notifies the operator.
Review: a human examines page and report, target within 48 hours. Assessment is against the terms and applicable law, with legal advice in cases of doubt.
Decision and log: outcome, reasoning and time are recorded. Blocks are executed through the admin area and take effect immediately.
Communication: statement of reasons to the organizer, feedback to the reporter (if a contact address was given).
Follow-up: objections are reviewed again; accounts with warnings are flagged when new reports come in.
